-Applicants visiting family in China will need to provide relationship certification
-Applicants born in China (including Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan) will not have to submit hotel confirmations as long as they provide relationship certification. ( Copy of Birth Certificate or Marriage certificate)(required as of 4/15/08)

-Letter from employer stating vacation time (for applicants living in New York jurisdiction)

-Official Invitation from the Chinese Government. Number of entries is based on the invitation provided by applicant This invitation is almost always in Chinese with a Government Seal on it. Invitations from companies in China are not accepted by the consulate.
-Company Letter from U.S. based employer stating purpose of trip and who is financially responsible for the applicant.
-Hotel Confirmation(required as of 4/15/08)

$130.00 for one week processing
$150.00 for 48-72 hour processing (Chicago only)
$160.00 for 24 hour processing

Service Charge: $30.00 per U.S. Passport (not including return charges) If visa is processed in Washington DC, New York, Houston or San Francisco the service charge is :$40.00 plus a $11.00 Washington postage fee. (does not include return shipping.)

Processing Time: 5 Working Days

The Chinese visa can be valid for single, double, 6 month multiple or 1 year multiple entries. The number of entries issued on the visa is determined by what is on the official Government invitation from China. The number of entries cannot be changed once an application is in process. Non U.S. passport holders cannot get multiple entry visas at this time.

2 year visas cannot be obtained through the Chicago Chinese Consulate but can sometimes be obtained through the Embassy in Washington DC.
